Abstract

The focus of the research is career management. A discussion is developed on the assumption that career development is a continuous coordination process between the work organisation and the individual, in which the individual and the organisation are partners in spreading knowledge, skills, and competences to fulfil current and future work tasks. Knowledge about managers' career management skills is especially valuable, as it provides further insight into how they develop, how we can help them, and how they can more successfully provide for the employee's development at all organisational levels. Therefore, an appropriate career development model has to reflect the complexity and multidimensional nature of the career and the ability to adjust to a modern dynamic business environment. We conclude that lifelong learning is a necessity for the employee's career development in career management processes. An opportunity to develop the potential of employees is strengthened in a career model through the knowledge about career competences and the knowledge about the specifics of a supportive organisational environment.
