Abstract

The aim of the paper is to determine the role of the healthcare management in Slovenia along with the factors forming the management. In October and November 2015, 12 in-depth interviews with providers of nursing care were conducted. The results showed that the management’s role is important, however, there is a gap between the nursing care services and the managerial process. The interviewees pointed out a number of factors that hinder their work: precarious work, poor work organization, weak human resources structure, and inadequate knowledge about management in connection with communication and conflict resolution. The interviewees also expressed the following supportive factors: teamwork, high autonomy and high work engagement. The gap between the nursing care services and the managerial process were created especially by the lack of nurses’ employment, poor work organization and poor knowledge about the healthcare management. Teamwork, autonomy of work and high engagement support the interaction between nursing care and management.
