Abstract

A good leader is aware of the importance of leadership and the fact that they need to continuously work on developing good leadership skills as a response to the rapidly-changing modern world. It is true for all departments that work relationships, employee satisfaction, their status and well-being, depend on the leader. Especially due to this reason, it is imperative to gather feedback, commendations, reprimands, and expectations from the employees in order to create an atmosphere that would be acceptable to the majority. The research, in which 115 non-management employees in nursing teams at a Slovene healthcare institution were included, identified the qualities of a leader and the most appropriate leadership style that is expected from the leader by employees in nursing care. It also revealed the healthcare workers’ view on leadership, the significance of leaders’ education from the employees’ aspect, the conflict solving procedures, and the importance of a positive environment. The data that were obtained will help to create a collection of qualities which every good nursing care leader should possess, and to determine the leadership style, which will, according to the employees’ opinion, be the most appropriate in the field of nursing care.
