Business Websites of Successful Slovenian Businesses – the Quality of English Translations

Business websites are a necessity for all present-day businesses; consequently, the publication of information in a foreign language on international businesses’ websites raises the question of the quality of translations. Grammatically correct website content, nowadays mostly in English, is critical for foreign customers’ satisfaction. As no study on the quality of Slovenian business websites in English has been conducted so far, the aim of the study was to investigate the language quality of Slovenian business websites published in English. The analysed websites of Slovenian businesses translated to English are of very different language quality, however, most of them are of exemplary quality with very few errors. The findings show that some of the Slovenian businesses with impeccable English websites prefer not to post topical information, even during the coronavirus crisis, if it has not been translated by professional translators. In the study, I would like to propose a new category to evaluate the quality of English translations, namely translating and publishing topical information.
