Learning Organization Development in Healthcare Institutions
a Literature Review
Keywords:
learning organization, organizational learning, behavior in the learning organization, employees in the learning organization, healthcare institutionsAbstract
Constant changes in the environment require constant adaptation of the organization, which is enabled by the learning organization. As a learning organization, a healthcare institution can operate more successfully and competitively. The presence of the concept of a learning organization in healthcare institutions in Slovenia, in the countries of the European Union, and in the world is established in the present research. I used a descriptive method of work and a metasynthesis of the review of scientific literature from the databases COBISS, CINAHL, dLib, ERIC, Google Scholar, Emerald and PubMed. I have included the following exclusion criteria: publications from 2010 to 2019, the keywords “learning organization” and “healthcare” and free access to full articles. I found that the concept of a learning organization is present in healthcare institutions in quite a few Member States of the European Union and also in other countries, and that certain Slovenian healthcare institutions include individual elements of a learning organization. Due to the rapid progress of science and medicine, healthcare institutions need to transform into learning organizations to the greatest possible extent in order to operate successfully and competitively, while the existing ones mostly need improvements in management and education.
