In the extraordinary economic circumstances, such as the last global economic crisis, necessity of state intervention came to the forefront. Problems which all countries are facing, regardless of their development level, and striving to maintain the level of competitiveness in crisis conditions, have demanded an active role of the state. One of the ways of the state intervention in the economy is the state aid. A category of state aid played an important role during the period of the global economic crisis among the European Union member states, as well as in the potential member states. This paper analyses the effects and impact of anti-crisis state aid to the financial sector in the European Union and Serbia. The objective is to evaluate the effectiveness of the implemented measures with a certain time distance, and to identify the policy guidance in the future.
